Cathy Jordan - All The Way Home Review

Artist: Cathy Jordan

Album: All The Way Home

Label: Blix Street Records

OUT NOW

Rating: 5/5

Cathy Jordan is best known for her work in band Dervish but this week she strikes out on her own with her debut solo album All The Way Home.

The album charts the musical journey for Cathy as she covers a handful of Irish songs that featured heavily while she was growing up - as well as penning some of the songs herself.

There is a real alluring feel to the album from the opening notes of The Bold Fenian Men to the closing bars of All The Way Home, as Jordan brings traditional Irish music to a new audience.

The Bold Fenian Men really does set the tone for the album as Cathy Jordan?s enchanting vocals are supported wonderfully by an acoustic guitar as well as some beautiful strings.

There is a real personal feel to this album as Jordan covers songs that are very close to her heart - but with Roger Tallroth on board they have put a whole new spin on these classic tunes.

Eileen McMahon is one of the strongest tracks on the album and there is a real ethereal quality to Cathy?s vocals on this track.

This track shows off her vocal versatility as she from being deep and very rich to tackling the higher notes with such ease.

She has a voice that is just so easy to listen too that you just get swept away in the story and the music that this album offers - you will hear nothing else like this for the rest of the year.

But All The Way Home also shows off Jordan?s song-writing skills with the likes of The Road I Go, which talks about leaving home for the first time; again Cathy drew on her own experiences as he father struggled to come to terms with his son leaving home.

And All The Way Home is the perfect end to this beautiful album as she sings about returning home after travelling the world.

All The Way Home is the perfect introduction to Cathy Jordan as both and vocalist and as a songwriter as this is almost a perfect album as it brings the Irish music genre to life and with a whole new twist.

The flute, whistle, strings, guitar, pipes, tuba and banjo are just some of the instruments that feature on this great album that all fit beautifully together and support Cathy Jordan?s wonderful voice.?
