?
I?m speaking from experience when I tell you that your home internet business will fail without a plan. I?ve been working online for several years now, and I floundered for the first few years because I failed to plan.At first I educated myself, learned all I could about how to build an internet business, how to build and maintain a WordPress blog, list building and marketing my business. Along the way, I ?reinvented? myself several times by changing niches and business models trying to find what I enjoyed and what worked for me, all the while learning the all tricks of the trade I possibly could. Eventually I realized that I needed to put all that education and training to work helping others to learn to use WordPress and the marketing needed to build their businesses on a solid foundation for success.
I love working from home. There is nothing better than being able to come and go as I please, attend lunches and family outings, play with my grandson in the middle of the day and stay in my jammies til noon if I want. I can start my day when I want to and quit when I feel like it. There?s just nothing better than working for yourself from home on the computer with no boss breathing down your neck. After all, isn?t that a big part of the home internet business appeal?
Of course it is! Only problem is I wasn?t making much money. All the perks with no financial rewards. Now don?t get me wrong. I worked hard, often working 12-14 hours a day and weekends to make up for my ?flexible hours?. I?d learned to do everything I needed to create a profitable business and then some. So why was I so darned broke? Why was I working so much for so little?
Does any of this sound familiar? Are you just treading water to keep afloat like I was? Are you working like crazy to make something happen without results?
One day I realized that so many of the marketing strategies I learned and used had fallen by the wayside. There just weren?t enough hours in the day to do them anymore. I was working much too hard for the minimal results I was getting. That?s when I took an honest look at what I was doing and realized that I had ceased to plan everything out. Without a plan, a to do list and attainable goals, I become a blithering idiot. Since I?d never not had a plan before, I didn?t know that about myself. I?m betting you don?t get too far without a plan either, am I right?
Planning is the glue that holds this whole internet thing together! Without it, you tend to chase every shiny object that glides across your screen down every rabbit hole you can find, don?t you Alice? And you end up working way too much without the desired outcome. I call that ?busy? work, not productive work.
Without a plan, there is no focus, no time constraints. This allows you to give yourself an unlimited amount of time to complete a task or project. Without time constraints, you end up taking all the time in the world to get things done. Lots of busy work and piddling around with nothing to show for it.
I know, it?s like I?ve been spying on you, right? Nope, I just know how it works because I?ve been there, done that. I work with clients on a daily basis that are struggling with this same issues. It?s human nature. So how do you fix it so you can become profitable? You have to take the bull by the horns and become a planner. Make yearly, monthly, weekly and daily plans, use check lists, to do lists, kitchen timers, whatever it takes to keep you focused and on track. Until you do, you won?t make much of an income, if any.
Over the past several months I have been in a bit if a business slump because of health and family issues and recovery from surgery on my wrist. I?ve kept everything going, but have slacked off on implementing some of the marketing, traffic, list building and monetizing strategies that grow my business. I need to get focused and serious again. How about you? Together we will kick it in gear!
