Senior U.S. Education Official to Discuss Education Reform at Goldman Sachs-Stanford University Global Education Conference

U.S. Department of Education Assistant Deputy Secretary Jim Shelton will participate in a panel discussion today, Tuesday, June 19, at 4:30 p.m. PT at the Goldman Sachs-Stanford University Global Education Conference at Stanford University in Palo Alto, Calif. The panel discussion, entitled ?K-12 Revolution,? will focus on how innovation, globalization, regulation, and technology are impacting education. Participants will also discuss how public and private sectors can work together to improve student learning outcomes. The conference audience will include senior officials from the public sector, CEOs of the largest education companies in countries including China, India, and Brazil, heads of non-profit organizations, founders of new education companies and education investors.

To strengthen K-12 education, the Obama administration has launched new initiatives like Race to the Top, the Investing in Innovation fund, and the Promise Neighborhoods program, which encourage educators to use innovative and evidence-based solutions to enhance their classroom instruction and accelerate student learning. These programs support the creative use of technology to increase equity and access to high quality education in order to close the achievement gap and raise the bar for all students.
