Another active day is expected across the nation Tuesday as multiple weather features move through the U.S.

A low pressure system develops as it moves off the Northern Rockies, bringing scattered showers and thunderstorms as it moves into the Northern Plains and Upper Midwest. Expect scattered showers and thunderstorms to develop along a front associated with this system. Hail and strong winds are likely, but tornadoes are not anticipated. Rainfall totals are expected to be near an inch, more in areas of severe storm development.

Meanwhile in the East, a low pressure system spinning over eastern Canada will continue pushing a cold front southeastward throughout the day. The system will push into the Southeast and Mid-Atlantic states, triggering more showers and thunderstorms. Some of these storms may turn severe later in the afternoon and evening hours. Expect rainfall totals ranging from 1 to 1.5 inches in areas of thunderstorm activity.

Out West, moisture associated with the remnants of Tropical Storm Arlene continue moving northward from Mexico. This will bring more clouds and light rain showers to the Southwest, while a few clouds will extend over most of southern and central California. The Pacific Northwest will remain warm and sunny as high pressure dominates.

Temperatures in the Lower 48 states Monday ranged from a morning low of 35 degrees at Stanley, Idaho, to a high of 104 degrees at Wichita Falls, Texas.
