People ask me, with so many options for making money online, why network marketing? What is it about network marketing that pushes me to promote it and work at it so hard? You have to realize that not so long ago I would have asked the same thing. I had bad experiences with different companies?all similar results?all similar approaches.
The first company, a well known company was had a huge product line. The marketing plan was very straight-forward, we would meet someone and draw circles. You would make your list?you know, make your list?your list of friends and family and go market your brand new program to them. Yikes!
Of course I don?t have to tell you, harassing your friends and family will not give you the results you are looking for. Today when I hear someone talking about making a list of friends and family, your warm market, I use it as part of the criterion for selecting which companies to stay away from!
Another company that I got involved with was a network marketing company that sold Gold?American Eagles. I sponsored a lot of people in this program because it was a product that sold itself. You could throw these coins down on the table and watch people?s eyes?.Wow! Gold!
The problem with this company obviously wasn?t the product and it wasn?t the recruiting. The company was not set up correctly with the SEC and therefore was shut down. The leaders of the company faced some legal troubles and things just sort of went the way of the Dodo bird.
So, after reading about these two stories, you may still be wondering why network marketing? You have to understand that for me, no matter how flawed a company is, or how hard a time I have with archaic recruiting tactics, the network marketing business model still works. Network marketing is still the best chance that the average person has to build a business from home on the side. Yes, there are some examples out there of bad mlm companies and opportunities, but it?s not all of them.
If I believe in the network marketing business model so much, then how do we move from the older ideas about how to build a MLM company and what to look for when joining one? The best answer here is that you must find a group of mentors that will show you the ropes. A group of leaders that will share with you and help you build your company. Don?t believe they exist? Network marketing or MLM (Multi-Level Marketing) is not, nor has it ever been, a get-rich-quick scam. If someone is telling you that you can get rich in MLM within a few weeks of very little work, you can be sure that they are lying to you, but?if you are willing to make a long-term commitment, become educated in what to look for in a good network marketing company, find a system to help you learn, support you and help you generate leads, then you have a good shot at becoming free and learning how to own your life!
