Black-Tie Event to Support Going - Chicagoland Real Estate Forum

There is more green to Soldier Field than its turf.

On Saturday, the stadium will host the U.S. Green Building Council (USGBC) ? Illinois Chapter?s 6th Annual Emerald Gala, the ?Greening of the Gala.?

This is the USGBC-Illinois? biggest fundraising event of the year and also the regional green building community?s night to celebrate individual and collaborative efforts that make our cities and state healthy, sustainable and efficient places in which to live, work and learn.

Soldier Field is going green this weekend and in the future.

?Sustainability is at the heart of what we do and integrates into all of our work,? said Doug Widener, Executive Director of USGBC ? Illinois Chapter. ?Greening of the Emerald Gala is an important part of our work to change the market.

?There is a whole new way of doing events sustainably that wasn?t around even five years ago. I like to think that we have been and will continue to be a part of moving this industry towards sustainability just like our work related to green buildings and communities.?

Soldier Field is an appropriate venue for this event; the stadium is pursuing the USGBC?s certification, LEED? for Existing Buildings. There has been a significant investment in energy effficiency at the stadium, which has over 89,000 square feet of green roof and dual flush toilets to reduce water use.

The site also offers parking for alternative fuel or hybrid vehicles and bike parking.

?Green is one of our core values,? said Brendan Daley, Director of Green Initiatives at the Chicago Park District, ?and we encourage events that are held in our facilities such as Soldier Field to be as green and sustainable as possible.?

The Emerald Gala will feature more than 500 green building professionals, a Natural Leaders Award ceremony, a seated dinner, a silent auction and live music and dancing.

There is also a cash raffle and you can buy tickets even if you aren?t attending. To purchase raffle tickets or to make a donation, click here. Proceeds will support the Chapter?s education and advocacy work in three areas: green and affordable homes and sustainable communities, green and healthy schools, and jobs for the green economy.
