Illinois man faces felony aggravated DUI | Lake County DUI Defense ...

One of the penalties for a DUI conviction is often the loss of driving privileges. Once drivers' licenses are revoked or suspended, it will then be necessary to seek a reinstatement of a driver's license. However, what happens to someone who never had a license in Illinois, or anywhere, to begin with? A young Illinois man is stuck trying to answer this question.

Police officers arrested the 20-year-old man recently and charged him with felony DUI. According to police officer who pulled him over at 1:43 in the morning, the driver violated several traffic laws. Mount Vernon police say that the driver failed a field sobriety test before he was brought to the police station.

At the police station, the driver took a breathalyzer test. According to that test, his blood-alcohol content was .182, more than twice the legal limit for legal drivers in Illinois. The man has been living in Illinois for the past five years. Apparently, however, he has never obtained a valid driver's license in any state.

As a result, he was charged with felony aggravated DUI. He was also charged with misdemeanors for traffic violations. These included:

  • Improper stopping in a roadway
  • Improper lane usage
  • Driving without a valid driver's license

It is important to note that this Illinois driver was not over the age of 21. That makes the drunk driving accusations even more serious.

Unfortunately, this situation may prevent the man from being able to obtain a driver's license sometime in the future. He will certainly need the help of an experienced DUI attorney who can walk him through Illinois traffic laws, and defend him against the charges of felony DUI.
